Last year I made canned pickles for the first time, while they were flavorful they were lacking in good crunch. I hope to try some more this year with better results.
This week we received cucumbers in our share and Nathan asked for some refrigerator bread & butter pickles. I made those two years ago, but alas I could not find the recipe I used. So, in searching, I came across the recent post on Smitten Kitchen for bread & butter pickles. I used cider vinegar because I like the flavor instead of white vinegar. We only had red spring onions, so I used those. Later we went to a farmers’ market and picked up some white onion which I added the next day.
They turned out delicious and crispy!
